BACK TO BACK RCMP WEEKENDS

So, on the heals of the Brass running away from home and the RCMP sort of escorting him home, we had another visit. This time the older one went to a party a few miles away. He promised not to drink and we made sure with the people at the party that he wouldn’t. So we were pretty confident it would be a quiet night.

I woke up around 4:00 am to pee and realized I had a call from the local RCMP detachment. Never a good sign. I went to the kitchen, looked out the window and saw 2 RCMP vehicles on the driveway, along with my car. My first assumption was that he had, in fact, driven drunk. Fortunately that was not the case. I went outside and heard J’s voice in the back yard. The cops told me they were there because J had called a suicide hotline. We walked to the back of the house. J was on the railing of the second floor deck of the shop. He was ‘threatening’ to jump. I say that with quotes because he’s NEVER been suicidal and I was sure he wouldn’t jump. (Even if he did, he was only 9′ off the ground and would only break a leg or two) I went up to him, grabbed his hand and pulled him down hard onto the deck. He was really drunk. Turns out he had bought a mickey on his way to the party, enjoyed the party, drove home and then drank the mickey in the shop. And then got all weird.

The cops had an ambulance standing by and the two EMTs made their way on to the driveway. Let’s just say our driveway was well-illuminated at this point. I tried to convince the cops that I could take care of him from here on in but they said they had to hand him over to the EMTs as a matter of protocol. The EMTs said they had to take him to the hospital. So I waited for him to text me from the hospital and went to get him. By then he had been in the waiting room for 3 hours. We waited for another hour and watched a man with chest pains, and a little girl who had trouble breathing get triaged; I knew it was going to be a while until they saw us, we were not a priority. Finally I went to the triage nurse and told her we were leaving. She didn’t protest much. We went home, he got some good sleep and we’re back to ‘normal.’
