September 9/2022. BABY STEPS

So, generally my posts on here highlight the troubles of raising a couple of FASD kids. And indeed since I last posted there have been more than enough ‘incidents.’ But today is a positive post. My 19 year old is working part time at a nearby Co-op gas station/convenience store. He’s been there for 4 months. He gets about 30 hours a week but is always offered more shifts from his colleagues (who have a work-related chat group). We continue to impress on him to take shifts if offered. As you can imagine, there is a rotating door of staff. The young, impetuous, ‘grass is greener,’ type. The other day the managers expressed how well he was doing – the bar is pretty low but still – and suggested that if he keep up the good work he could get full time. (benefits and the same shift every week day, no weekends) We are very proud of him.

The other guy – the 21 year old – is in his glory now because it’s harvest time. He is in demand from 2 local farmers – both of whom can’t seem to get by without him. He also helps out on a dairy farm two mornings a week and today, has an interview with another dairy farm to work the afternoon milking shift (12:30-3:30 weekdays). So all in all, a pretty good last couple of days.
